At Studio Milstein, design begins with the personality of the people who inhabit a space. It does not begin with a prescribed style or with the question of what is currently in fashion. Every design develops its own identity and translates personal ideas, ways of living, and stories into an individual spatial language.

It is about the art of making the right selection. Materials, colors, forms, art, and objects are deliberately placed in relation to one another. The timeless can meet the unexpected; modern clarity can meet pieces with history; restraint can meet a confident gesture. Art occupies a special place here. A painting, a sculpture, or an extraordinary object can add a new dimension to a space, create tension, or become the starting point for an entire composition. What matters is not the individual work alone, but the eye for how art, space, and furnishings interact. It is precisely from these deliberately established relationships and contrasts that distinctive spaces emerge—spaces that do not derive their character from short-lived trends.

Studio Milstein understands luxury as a quality one experiences. It manifests itself in materials and craftsmanship as well as in proportions, light, atmosphere, art, and details. The result is interiors that appear cultivated and extraordinary without losing their natural ease—spaces that are not merely looked at but lived in, and that make the personality of their inhabitants visible in an unmistakable way.

Alice Milstein

Art and the effect of spaces have accompanied Alice Milstein since childhood. Painting, sculpture, and installation sharpened her eye for color, form, and composition early on. Later she studied architecture and art in Germany and England.

Born in Latvia and shaped by life in different countries as well as by travels in Europe and the USA, she developed a perspective less guided by a particular style than by the question of what makes good design across cultural boundaries. Today she lives and works in Berlin, a city whose contrasts and contradictions correspond to her own creative approach.

At the heart of her work is the interplay between harmony and tension. For perfect harmony alone can become predictable. Only a conscious contrast, an unexpected work of art, an unusual color, or the encounter between different eras can give a space its special energy. This is never about provocation for its own sake, but about the right balance between calm and surprise.

Alice Milstein understands spaces as far more than an aesthetic environment. They influence how we feel and how we live. At the same time, they say something about who we are, what is important to us, and how we see the world. This combination of personality, art, and space forms the starting point of her work.

Cooperation

For selected projects, Studio Milstein collaborates with Riemenschneider Interior. The collaboration broadens the design dialogue and makes it possible to combine areas of expertise on a project-specific basis.

Our Work

I guide the design of spaces from the first idea to a cohesive overall composition, combining interior design with a distinctive eye for art and individual objects.

Interior Design

I develop individual spatial concepts that bring together architecture, color, materials, light, and furnishings into a harmonious whole. The focus is on a design tailored to the people and the specific place, from which a distinctive spatial identity emerges.

Art & Curation

Art and special objects lend spaces personality and depth. I advise on the selection of artworks, sculptures, antiques, and exceptional unique pieces, integrating them into the interior so that a deliberate interplay emerges between art, architecture, and furnishings.

Personal Consultation

Not every design question requires a complete interior project. In a personal consultation, we look together at a room, a specific idea, or a decision you are facing, and I develop a clear design direction. The consultation can take place online or in person and is tailored individually to your question.
